Flora, 2018 | Video sculpture, 55" monitor embedded in the ground, 10:55 min (loop), no sound

Flora reflects on the earth as both a source of life for plants, crops and animals, and a place of darkness, death and burial. Departing from the conventional vertical screen position, the monitor is instead embedded in the ground, reinforcing the theme of decay and renewal. Through a fusion of footage and animation, the work depicts fruits, flowers, and bodies as they rot and gradually vanish. Beauty is rendered as a fleeting entity, forever oscillating between growth and decline, and inextricably linked to the eternal cycle of life, death, and rebirth.
