The double-channel video presents the unfolding of two parallel narratives: in one, a group of naked women faticously drag a lawn roller over open fields; in the other, a group of naked men move across a rocky landscape towards the sea, and then disappear under the water. It is a work of contrapositions: the women’s burden seems disproportionate and arbitrary, and nonetheless they carry it around without much complain. The men’s journey, on the other hand, is hesitant and filled with a sense of doom. As the men vanish beneath the waves, the women reach a hilltop and begin to dance while the soil beneath them turns green.
Relief questions whether liberation is earned or inherited, whether release comes through death, labor, or joy—and who, in the end, carries the weight.
