Retreat, 2016 |  Video sculpture, 55” screen installed in the ground, 8 min (loop), no sound

Inspired by the 1899 sculpture Sepulchral Monument to the Artist’s Mother by Danish artist Rudolph Tegner, Retreat shows a woman immersed in a white fluid. Slowly rotating on her own axis, she gradually disappears and reappears. Installed flush with the ground, the video refers to burial, transformation, and the spiritual energy of the underground. The woman’s movement is quiet—more breath than gesture. Where Tegner’s sculptures implies monumental permanence, Retreat offers something soft and unassuming: a meditation on the sculptural cycle of rebirth and the unseen forces that propel life in its endless spin.
